Business Critical

As modern business grows in complexity, both in terms of size, structure, and geographic dispersion, today’s enterprises rely heavily on modern messaging and collaboration systems to keep communications flowing smoothly and efficiently. We've seen it happen:  when the company electronic mail system fails, the company almost ceases to function. On top of all this, we do not only want this functionality on our desktop or laptop but also on our mobile device or in the Internet café while on holiday!  And of course we cannot forget the risk of viruses or unplanned exposure of data, forcing us into encryption, virus checking, multi-factor authentication, and so on.

Quest Consultants is acutely aware of the impact of a well planned and implemented messaging system on any organization. It makes an astounding difference in the way people can communicate and access information, both within as well as outside of their company. Productivity is higher and people are better equipped for their tasks.

Multiple Systems

Often we see that, over the years, some companies have implemented (or inherited) multiple messaging systems. After several years of neglect, mergers, and lack of IT management, it is not uncommon to find a wildly undocumented mess of different releases, tied together with patches and custom scripts which no one really understands anymore, lacking all structure and barely operational - with no time or budget to fix it, yet costing a fortune to keep running.

Even if your current system is completely homogeneous and working perfectly, nothing is forever!  Sooner or later you will have to reassess your system...eventually your requirements will change, or the market will change around you, and you will have to migrate to newer, more sophisticated messaging systems that may also require a new architecture for your network.  Perhaps most importantly of all, Microsoft has already ended supported for Exchange Server 5.5:  the imperative to upgrade has never been more acute!

Beyond E-mail

Today, the term 'messaging' has given way to 'collaboration'.  We watched as simple e-mail first grew into public document sharing, work-flow management, and scheduling.  Today, that list has grown to include user group discussions, online document publishing, forms to access databases, video conferencing, instant messaging, project management...the list is virtually endless.

One of the most exciting aspects of the collaboration revolution is the Portal.  Microsoft's solution, SharePoint Portal Server, give users the ability to organise information, readily access that information, manage documents, and enable efficient collaboration, all in a familiar, browser-based and Microsoft Office–integrated environment.  SharePoint is a fully customisable solution, with the following key capabilities:

bullet Document check-in/check-out, versioning, routing and publishing
bullet Discussion groups and notifications
bullet Role-based security
bullet Full-text searching and indexing
