With the ongoing growth of networking services, and a steadily increasing user base, ensuring quality of service has also become exponentially more important.  This is true on networks of any size or scope:  information technology has become a business-critical service, and its correct functioning may not be left to chance.  As such, the need to ensure correct network performance and ongoing service availability, and a properly secured environment, have also taken center stage.  Of course, this level of network design requires a high level of knowledge of advanced networking concepts, a deep awareness of current software and hardware, and extensive experience in technical design and implementation best practices.

Remote Access

The workforce is becoming increasingly more mobile, with a growing number of workers that want to access the company network from home or the road. Of course, there are many ways to solve this problem, depending on the specific functional requirements:  access can be arranged to email, corporate fileservers, and internal applications via dialup connections, ADSL, VPN over the Internet, or pure web-based access.  Of course, security and performance both become crucial issues in any remote access design -- all of which can be addressed by implementing the correct software, equipment, and configuration.

Baselining/ Assessments

A correct understanding of the current network configuration is a crucial part of improving availability of services.  This is especially important in the context of an upcoming projects, or if performance-related concerns exist. A proper baseline analysis not only presents a structured, clear and accurate outline of the network infrastructure (including the services and traffic patterns), but also should be the starting point for new designs, installations or other alterations to the network. And presenting an independent and comprehensive overview requires an extensive knowledge of techniques, protocols, products and standards.
